Mission:
Wolf in the Fold: Hide and Seek
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Prior to Unfinished Business
Whispers travelled faster than light aboard a starship, although Ensign Akii was beginning to realise they seemed to become distorted the further they travelled. Taking on a life of their own as details were embellished. Just in one brief turbolift journey she had heard the ship had been invaded by some kind of cloaked army, that the captain had been running around in pink boxer shorts and that one crewman had some kind of psychotic break. One ensign had told not to believe anyone - it was all a conspiracy and it was really a failed test of a new type of biological agent gone wrong.
Needless to say, the Bolian ensign was relieved to make it back to Sickbay. As she did she almost walked straight into someone already there. “Oh, I’m so sorry, Lieutenant…?”
The voice from behind her, caused Tatiana to jump slightly she had been lost in thought thinking of Caitlyn and had moved on to get out of the way. She had just stopped at the doorway to see where Caitlyn was at. turning she looked at Akil.
"Oh!" she murmured. "Sorry!"
“Ensign Akii,” the nurse explained, introducing herself.. “You were in Sickbay earlier when it was crazy, right? Thankfully a little better now. How can I help?”
"I'm Lieutenant Dragos, sorry to be in the way." she responded.
“Not in the way at all,” Akii assured her. “Please just let me know if you need anything.”
"I will do so." she made her way back to Caitlyn.
"Hi there glad to see you awake, you had me worried. Such craziness." Tatiana giving a relieved smile.
"Are you able to talk a bit better?" looking at her friend.
“Glad to be awake,” Caitlyn replied, pleased and a little surprised to see a familiar face. She gestured to the seat their captain and friend had occupied not too long ago. “Thank you for coming by.”
In truth she knew only a handful of people aboard - or rather only a handful knew her. Everything she had seen so far of the Intel chief, Caitlyn liked but of course that didn’t mean the other woman had to take time out of her day to visit her - even if the wider mission has thrown them together. Caitlyn was unaccustomed to the idea of having that kind of support around you, especially from those she had just met.
"You are welcome." a moment or two of quiet as Tatiana looked at Caitlyn. She was definitely relieved as to the woman being alive. She felt glad to have this connection with Caitlyn and Erik. "I just needed to check on you personally."
Daegan had been working his way backwards backtracking the series of assaults as his other people worked with operation on the computer and how it had been accessed. A lot of questions would be able to be answered if they know who or what had done this. Having left engineering he now arrived in Sickbay to look over the scene in more detail and check on and see if the wound could shed some light on the situation.
As the doors parted he saw Tatiana speaking with MacRae and he moved to join the pair. "Find anything useful?"
Perched on the edge of the biobed, MacRae had seen the officer enter and approach. She was fairly certain his question was aimed more at Tatiana rather than herself but she spoke up anyway. A sign of how being confined to Sickbay was driving her stir crazy. “I’m sorry, I’m pretty new to the ship,” she explained. “I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Caitlyn. Caitlyn MacRae, Ops.”
Daeagan nodded with a smile. "No problem. Baas, Daegan Baas, Chief of Security. Looks like the Doc has you all patched up." Glancing between the pair he turned to the Intel Chief, "I didn't mean to interrupt."
“You didn’t,” Caitlyn assured him. “And yes, he has worked a miracle or two. But stuck here for observation until he says otherwise. I was actually just asking the lieutenant if she knew what was going on? From how busy Sickbay was earlier, it seemed like a lot was happening. I mean I know what happened to me, although a few bits are a little fuzzy.”
"I know what you mean. I've been stuck in a sickbay a time or two myself but usually for the better. As for what put you here; those pieces are still being put together. Seems that whatever attacked you, took your form and hit engineering, then took another form and hit the flight deck. From there it managed to launch a shuttle without detection, taking a member of the flight crew with it. Presumedly as a hostage."
Listening in disbelief, Caitlyn found herself momentarily lost for words. Took her form? Digesting this news she frowned, “and this, whatever it is, is gone?”
If something could change form, she wasn’t sure how confident she would be in the answer either way. That aside, what he had said made sense - or at the very least helped to explain why one Starfleet officer attacked another. And why the voice had sounded so out of place…
Baas could see the the surprise on her face. "We are tracking and closing on the shuttle now." Look over to Tatiana, "Could this thing be something similar to the changeling on DS9?"
"From what evidence I've been looking at, I believe so about 85 to 90 percent sure. I don't want to say 100 percent as there is another species that can shape change and that would be a chameloid."
Tatiana paused for a moment, something odd having struck her. "I do have a question, is the Captain still wearing his pajama's?"
Baas hung his head shaking it.
“Sadly not,” Caitlyn confided, “much to the disappointment of most of the medical staff. I take it most of the ship knows about that by now… anyway, since you are here Lieutenant Bass, I wrote down everything I could remember.”
She handed him one of the PaDDs on the nearby chair. “Someone already had my clothes sent to the science department for analysis and Ensign Akii said they also found some DNA under my nails- I guess I scratched whatever it was. Anyway, it doesn’t amount to much I’m afraid.”
In truth, she had to rewrite her statement several times to seem less like the kind of detailed report she’d submit after an undercover assignment. All while exploiting Ensign Akii’s good nature and willingness to chat. And she had deliberately not mentioned who she had called for help. Would Bass ask? Maybe. She didn’t know him that well.
Taking the padd Baas didn't read it but held his gaze on her. "Was there enough for a comparison at least?"
“No idea,” Caitlyn admitted. “I haven’t been told much of anything. I sure as hell fought back so hopefully there is something helpful to come out of this mess.”
Tatiana gave a small smile at the security chief's reaction then set her mind back to what was being spoken about.
"Mabye we can find out something from our friendly nurse here. She might be able to answer some questions or I can nose around in the files." Tatiana looked at Baas. "With you investigating this as per security, you do have the authorization to dig in even further."
“I can guarantee she,” Caitlyn pointed to Akii, “is a sweetheart but definitely a talker. This one however…”
She sighed as one of the other nurses came into view. She was actually a little okay with the woman heading there way since her niggling headache was back. “I think I’m in trouble,” she observed with a small smile. “Is there anything else you need from me? Sorry none of it is much use.”
"Actually it is sufficient, what do you think? " Tatiana looking towards Baas. "Just keep us posted if you come across anything else. And once we have the chance, lets get together and have some drinks. It would be good to catch up."
He smiled and nodded, "Sounds like a plan and yes if anything comes up let us know immediately please." Looking to Tatiana, "Let's look over what we got and let MacRae get rest." As they moved off, "I REALLY wanna know how this person got off the ship.
